Give Us Another Month...

Walking through my gardens, I see so many flowers that are still in the bud stage, having never bloomed at all. This is due, we expect, to the very late summer. In addition, I planted most of my tubers about two or three weeks later than other growers. The other day my husband said he thought we might have another month before the first killing frost - I sure hope so! Among the dahlias that have not yet bloomed are several seedlings that we would love to see before they die. One is trying desperately to bloom right now, and I love the colors - it looks like it will be an informal decorative, maybe a B size, with bright yellow in the center blending to a bright flame-colored red. The shape is a little off, but that is not unusual with a first bloom. This one definitely looks like a keeper, and I am looking forward to the next few years of refining this seedling.

I finally posted pictures on my FB site, so I hope people take a few minutes to look at it. The banquet of colors when dahlias are placed in rows next to similar or different hues is stunning! Anyone who has never been to a dahlia show, or who has never seen a county fair display such as the ones in Monroe and Puyallup, really have a treat in store if they take advantage of the opportunity to attend something like this. We really look forward to a year of learning and growing in our dahlia skills. We have a great group of people who work their tails off to do everything well. Visit my page at Facebook and enjoy the pictures!
