Show your stuff at the Dahlia Show

The weather is getting cooler - my friend Mike says he thinks it is "Indian Summer" - I'm not so sure of that. It seems a little early to be bidding farewell to the warm summer weather that usually lasts well into September before autumn starts to creep in. My dahlias seem to like the cooler weather, and their color is brighter when the hot midday sun is not bleaching them out. I'm estimating that some of my best blooms will be ready just in time for the September 18 show -at least I hope so!

Sure hope we get some new folks to bring their dahlias to our show this year. I talked with new member Debbie K., who has promised that her two girls Ellie and Fiona both plan to enter in the junior division. This is really exciting! We haven't had any junior exhibitors in the show for many, many years! The girls have really been "bitten by the dahlia bug" and have become very involved in many garden challenges this year, including building cages to keep prairie dogs from eating the succulent tubers at their Auntie Beth's place this year! Talk about a trial by fire!

BTW, anyone interested in exhibiting can contact me or other members of the dahlia society to get the lowdown on what they need to do. If you are entering in the show, you need to have your flowers in and tagged in time for the judging, which will begin about 9:30 on Saturday morning. It's EASY to exhibit, even if this is your first time! Hope you can join us!!!!
